Have you heard about Kyoto's hottest burger of the summer?
This summer, gourmet burger restaurant BRISK STAND is serving its limited-edition "The Spicy One (RED HOT EGG BURGER)".
The burger is served with a Kyoto-made habanero hot sauce, which immediately caught our attention.
Curious to find out which local brand was behind the sauce, we headed to BRISK STAND's Higashiyama location in Kyoto to see,and taste,it for ourselves.

A Kyoto-Made Hot Sauce Finds Its Way to One of the City's Best Burgers
When people think of Kyoto, traditional Japanese cuisine, matcha, and centuries-old culinary traditions usually come to mind.
But in recent years, another food movement has been quietly growing. A new generation of Kyoto artisans is crafting small-batch hot sauces that focus not just on heat, but on depth of flavor, umami, and fermentation.
At Habanebros, we're proud to be part of that movement, producing fermented habanero hot sauce right here in Kyoto.
So when we heard that BRISK STAND was serving a limited-time burger featuring a Kyoto-made habanero hot sauce, we knew we had to try it. Our Marketing & PR Manager, Anna Ayvazyan, headed to the Higashiyama location to find out what all the buzz was about.

Why Do We Crave Spicy Food on Hot Summer Days?
Japan's summers have become noticeably hotter in recent years.
In Kyoto, days that feel close to 40°C (104°F) are no longer unusual.
So why is it that when the temperature rises, many of us start craving spicy food?
Researchers have proposed several reasons why spicy dishes have long been popular in hot climates around the world.
A Traditional Way to Preserve Food
Many spices have natural antimicrobial properties. Long before refrigeration, they were commonly used to help preserve ingredients and keep food fresh for longer.
It Helps You Cool Down
Capsaicin—the compound that gives chili peppers their heat—stimulates sweating. As sweat evaporates from your skin, it helps cool your body, leaving you feeling surprisingly refreshed, even on a scorching summer day.
It Brings Your Appetite Back
Summer heat often takes away your appetite, but the bold kick of chili peppers can do the opposite. A little spice wakes up your taste buds and makes you want to take just one more bite.
Perhaps that's one of the reasons spicy food continues to grow in popularity across Japan. As the summers get hotter, more people are discovering that a great hot sauce isn't just about heat,it's about adding flavor, excitement, and a refreshing kick to every meal.
We Tried "The Spicy One (RED HOT EGG BURGER)"
Our Marketing & PR Manager, Anna, visited BRISK STAND Kyoto Higashiyama to see what the buzz was all about.
Although she arrived around 1:00 p.m. on a weekday, the restaurant had a relaxed atmosphere, making it the perfect place to enjoy lunch at a leisurely pace.
Naturally, she ordered the summer limited-edition "The Spicy One (RED HOT EGG BURGER)."
The burger is served with:
- A 100% Japanese beef patty
- A smoked bacon and jalapeño omelet
- Crispy fries
- Kyoto-made habanero hot sauce
The set is priced at ¥1,900 (tax included).

Before taking a bite of the burger, Anna decided to start with the fries, dipping one into the hot sauce.
The moment she tasted it, one thought crossed her mind:
"This tastes like Habanebros."
The rich, layered umami that comes from fermentation.
The bright, fruity aroma of habanero peppers.
It was a flavor profile she knew instantly.

A gentle tang. A balanced heat that enhances the food instead of overpowering it.
It's a flavor we know by heart because we work with this sauce every day.
Still, we didn't want to jump to conclusions.
After enjoying the meal, Anna asked one of the staff members about the hot sauce to find out if her hunch was right! It was Habanebros sauce!
What We Thought of the Burger
The Spicy One (RED HOT EGG BURGER) is a burger we'd recommend not only to spice lovers, but to anyone who appreciates a great gourmet burger.
It's delicious on its own, but the Kyoto-made habanero hot sauce takes it to another level.
Rather than simply adding heat, the sauce enhances every ingredient—the rich flavor of the beef, the creamy omelet, and the smoky bacon—bringing everything together in perfect balance.
The subtle acidity from the fermentation keeps each bite fresh and vibrant, making the burger surprisingly easy to finish without feeling overwhelmed by its richness.
Anna, who normally finds beef burgers a little heavy, was pleasantly surprised. She finished the entire burger comfortably and never felt weighed down. It's a testament not only to the quality of the ingredients, but also to how well the fermented habanero sauce complements them.
The Mystery Sauce Revealed...
After finishing her meal, Anna asked one of the staff members a simple question.
"By the way, who makes the Kyoto-made habanero hot sauce you serve with the burger?"
The staff member disappeared into the kitchen and returned with a bottle.
The label read:
Habanebros Original.
Anna couldn't help but smile.
"I knew it! I'm actually part of the Habanebros team."
She introduced herself, shared our founder's gratitude for choosing our sauce, and exchanged business cards with the team.
Seeing a hot sauce we've carefully crafted by hand in Kyoto being served at one of the city's most popular gourmet burger restaurants was an incredibly proud moment for all of us.
To everyone at BRISK STAND, thank you for supporting local makers and for letting our hot sauce be part of such an outstanding burger.
